On the evening of Saturday, July 27th, 2025, the illustrious Vermillion Manchester was abuzz with anticipation and community spirit as Smile Aid UK hosted a magnificent gala dinner to celebrate a true sporting icon and the very best of our community.
The event, graced by community leaders, and supporters, was a resounding success, blending inspirational storytelling, heartfelt recognition, and world-class entertainment—all in support of Smile Aid UK’s ongoing mission to bring hope and smiles to those in need.
Welcoming a Global Hero to Manchester
The undisputed highlight of the evening was the presence of Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist and the world record holder in javelin. Marking his first-ever visit to our city, we were deeply honored to present Arshad with a special commemorative trophy on behalf of the Greater Manchester community. This gesture was a small token of our immense pride and admiration for his incredible achievements, which have inspired millions around the globe.

For five remarkable decades, Alama Azeem has served as a distinguished journalist and a vital bridge between the British and Pakistani communities, dedicating his life to fostering understanding and unity. This award was a fitting tribute to a lifetime of profound dedication and service.
An Audience with a Champion & A Soulful Performance
Guests were captivated by an intimate and inspiring question-and-answer session with Arshad Nadeem. He generously shared insights into his journey, the challenges he overcame, and the discipline required to reach the pinnacle of world sports.
